Description |
Stereoview card. The photographer is possibly in the second floor of the Ministry Wagon House looking east over the gardens toward the Valerian Distillery. The foreground is gardens, with people standing in the middle distance. There appear to be two Shaker brothers and the rest of the people are visitors from the outside world. At the right is a cart with large wheels and a sheet with some type of gathered plants on it. Near the cart is a Shaker Brother with a full basket. At the left side of the photo is the Garden Barn, with the Valerian Distillery beyond and to its right. Beyond the gardens is Lake Mascoma and Shaker Hill on the opposite shore. The card has rounded corners and orange paper on the front. The images are 3-1/8" square. In the gap between the two images there are two dots of black ink on the orange paper - one near the top and the other near the bottom of the images. These alignment marks are commonly seen on Brigham cards. The back is pink. In the center is printed in black ink "Photographed by / E.T. Brigham, / Lebanon, / N.H." At the lower right is a stamp in black ink that reads "Leavitt collection" On the left side is a very faint word that begins with "E" which appears on other cards in this series. |
