Description |
Stereoview card. View from the cupola of the Great Stone Dwelling looking southeast. At the bottom of the photo are the fence and maple trees lining the church yard, the gambrel-roofed Moses Johnson Meeting House, and a part of the Ministry House. Adjacent to the Meeting House are gardens ending at a fence line. Beyond the fence is the Sawmill pond, with cultivated fields beyond. A fence line extending south divides the fields from a partially forested area that has logs stored for use in the sawmill. In the distance is the Second (South) Family and Mont Calm beyond. Mascoma Lake is visible at the left of the photo. This image is #4 in the Lewis numbered stereoview series. The card has rounded corners and orange paper on the front. The images have shallow arches on the top edges, and are straight on the remaining three sides. On the back a list of the images is glued to the card which reads "Photographic Views, / Shaker Village, / Enfield, N.H." then a list of the 19 views in the series and "C.E. Lewis, Photographer, / Lebanon, N.H." at the bottom. The back of the card is a buff color, but has likely faded from the original reddish color seen on other cards in this series. At the bottom is written in blue ink in Robert Leavitt's handwriting "Leavitt Collection." |
