Description |
Stereoview card. The photographer is in the Great Stone Dwelling looking generally south to the Second (South) Family. At the lower left corner of the image is a small piece of the Moses Johnson Meeting House roof. A small area of garden crops beyond the Meeting House ends at a fence, part of which is double height. Beyond the fence is the brook (not visible) with some trees on the far bank including some small apple trees. Beyond is a wet area which appears to drain to the Sawmill pond. A prominent fence runs from the mill pond south. The area to the left of the fence has logs laying on the ground at the left, and apple trees growing in the middle distance. The right of the fence is possibly meadow. The lane from the Fourth NH Turnpike to the Sawmill is visible just beyond the wet area of field. The buildings of the Second family are visible in the distance. A small portion of the turnpike lined with Maples is visible at the right edge. To the left is Mascoma Lake and beyond is Mont Calm on the right. The card has rounded corners and orange paper on the front. The images are 3-1/8" square. In the gap between the two images there are two dots of black ink on the orange paper - one near the top and the other near the bottom of the images. These alignment marks are commonly seen on Brigham cards. The back is pink. In the center is printed in black ink "Photographed by / E.T. Brigham, / Lebanon, / N.H." In the lower right is stamped "Leavitt collection" in black ink. On the left side is a very faint word that begins with "E" which appears on other cards in this series. |
