Description |
Stereoview card. View from the Great Stone Dwelling cupola looking northwest toward the North Family. Church Family buildings visible in the foreground include: Back Store, Horse Barn, Ministry Shop (temporarily stored in this location), and the West Brethren's Shop. The Church Family cemetery is beyond the West Brethren's Shop, surrounded by gardens. The Fourth New Hampshire Turnpike and the row of maple trees between the Church and North Familys are visible. North Family buildings beyond include left to right: unknown, Laundry, Wood Shed, roof of Dwelling House, Cooperage and on the east side of the 4th NH Turnpike: Trustee's Office, Barn, Barn, Shop, Shed. Beyond the North Family the Shaker Bridge over Lake Mascoma is visible, with Mount Tug in the far distance. This image is #3 in the Lewis numbered stereoview series.The card has rounded corners and orange paper on the front. The images have shallow arches on the top edges, and are straight on the remaining three sides. On the back a list of the images is glued to the card which reads "Photographic Views, / Shaker Village, / Enfield, N.H." then a list of the 19 views in the series and "C.E. Lewis, Photographer, / Lebanon, N.H." at the bottom. The back of the card is a buff color, but has likely faded from the original reddish color seen on other cards in this series. |
