Description |
Carte-de-visite of Canterbury Shaker David Parker. The back has a pattern of decorated circles printed, with the following handwritten in ink "Born May 12th 1807/In Boston/Was placed by his mother/with the Society of Shakers/in Canterbury N.H. at/the age of ten yrs./Deceased Jan 20th 1867." The card has tan colored front, rounded corners and is irregularly cut. At the bottom is written "David Parker" in the same hand as the back. The photo is 2-3/8" x 3-3/4" with square corners and is not centered on the card. David parker is pictured in profile sitting in a chair, visible from head to waist. He is wearing glasses, white shirt, dark vest, and a lighter colored coat. Other museum collections have cards with similar writing on the back, and it has been suggested that the hand is that of Canterbury Brother Henry Blinn. |
