Description |
Side table with drawer in the skirt of the short side. Refinished, formerly painted green, some paint remains in scattered areas. Yellow birch primary wood with pine interior drawer parts. Knob is typical Enfield form and made of tropical hardwood. The leg is square in cross section from its top to just below the skirts, where it transitions to a round cross section with a ring at the transition, and taper in diameter to the ground. Legs have markings at bottoms indicating there may have been casters originally, this also explains the table's rather short height. Drawer lipped on three sides with ovolo thumbnail bead, bead with no lip on the lower edge. It is very significant that this table stayed on the site continuously from the Shaker era, through the La Salette era and into the museum era. |
