Description |
Small drop leaf table with two leaves and turned legs. Entire table is yellow birch. Top is attached to the base with pocket screws and has two leaves on the long sides with rule joints, attached with iron hinges. The mortises for the hinges on the leaves are longer than the hinge itself. The legs are turned and do not have a ring at the transition from square to round. Pegged mortise and tenon joints secure the skirts to the legs. The top is attached with two pocket screws on each long skirt - unusually the pockets are cut into the outside of the skirts. Pivoting supports for the table leaves are cut into the tops of the long side skirts. They pivot in the center and have beveled ends that neatly swing flush into the skirts. The skirt on one end of each support has a scooped recess to allow access to the end of the support to pull it out. In the middle of the underside of the top is an oval, domed, inlaid piece of wood which the inside arm of the leaf supports engage to raise the leaf to the proper height when fully extended. |
