Description |
Bed. Headboard is made of several different hardwoods. The posts are square for most of their height, transitioning at top to round with a ring, and topped with a broad cove and round finial with a medial scribe. Below the level of the rails is another transition to round with a ring, and a short, bulging tapered leg. The head board is solid over the span of the square posts, with four turned spindles above ending at a top rail. The footboard is also made of several hardwoods. Taller than the headboard, but similar to the headboard to the top of the square post, it then has a transition to round with a ring and long tapered top, ending with similar cove and finial. Just below the cove and finial is a single, horizontal, turned rail. The bedrails are pine with poplar battens nailed to the inside, bottom edges. The rail attachment hardware is cast iron. There are holes in the bottom of all four posts with metal sleeves which would have held casters. The finish seems to be a clear varnish, darkened over time. |
