Description |
Book of music owned by Flora Appleton. Hardcover bound book with lined pages. The covers are marbled. On the front cover is a label with "Flora Appleton / 1918" handwritten, and then traced over at least one time. The label is printed at the bottom with "S.W. Co., Boston, Mass." The book contains 73 pages of handwritten music and lyrics in pen and pencil. The music is written in standard notation. The beginning of the book is in one hand (pages 1-32) the remainder is in another hand. There are 71 numbered pages and the last two used pages are un-numbered. The numbering is at the top, outside corner of each page in pencil, and appears to be in the hand of the later user of the book, who is assumed to be Flora Appleton. There are a number of pages cut out between numbered pages 54-55. Some of the songs have dates recorded and the earliest date is 1912 and the latest 1923. A 5-1/2" x 7-1/2" sheet of pink linen textured paper is inserted in the book which has a poem or lyrics written in pencil. There is also a woven bookmark inserted in the book |
