Description |
Bed owed by Franklin Young. Includes headboard, footboard, rails, frame with spring suspension, and mattress. The headboard has a walnut frame with 5 horizontal birdseye maple panels. The top panel has a rounded top with a large, carved walnut crest and two walnut shields applied either side of the central crest. The second and third maple panels have a single, applied elongated walnut diamond, and the lower two birdseye panels are unadorned. The rails separating the panels are walnut and the panels are trimmed with applied walnut ogee molding. The square posts transiton to round with a ring below the bed side rails, and the posts are capped with a square board and turned finial secured with a wooden dowel. The footboard is of similar design and construction but shorter with three birdseye maple panels, the rounded upper one adorned with a walnut shield and the lower two with walnut elongated diamonds. Side rails swell at the ends with ogee on the top surface and attach to the posts with manufactured hooks and plates. Heavy, forged iron brackets support the inner hardwood frame and steel spring-wire mesh to support the mattress. Manufactured hardware secures the wire mesh to the frame and tensions it for support. There is a mattress with unknown stuffing. |
